Musician Sentenced to Conditional Prison for Cyclist's Death

Nicolás Mattioli was convicted for hitting and killing a woman who was cycling in Santo Tomé, Santa Fe province, in September 2024. The musician accepted and recognized his responsibility during a summary trial. Judge Susana Luna recently sentenced the driver, son of renowned Leo Mattioli, to three years of conditional prison for the negligent homicide of Claudia Laura Decurgez. The accident report concluded that Mattioli did not perform any evasive maneuvers or attempt to brake, and there was no obstacle that would have prevented him from seeing the victim before the impact. It was noted that the sentence was not more severe because the tests for alcohol and drugs were negative. As a result of being hit, Decurgez was thrown from the bicycle to the right side of the road and suffered a severe head trauma that caused her death moments later. Additionally, the court imposed a seven-year driving disqualification. According to the document released by the Regional Prosecutor's Office, Mattioli was ordered to be free but must respect various measures set by the judge: a ban on approaching within 100 meters of the victim's children and their father, and to take a road safety course. After the abbreviated trial, prosecutor Rosana Marcolín spoke to the media and stated: 'The condemned drove negligently and without taking due precautions, which is why he did not notice the presence of the cyclist'.
